I have done that many times. I usually catch a Bass in the trailer and Bluegill on the popper doubling up a lot of times. Sometimes that will miss the popper and catch themselves on the trailer by the fin or tail. Tony

I don’t know why eight, but most times, the fish come up, hit the popper, spit it out, then turn around and take the trailing fly and I catch him on the trailing fly. I felt I was cheating when I fished a chironomid under an indicator this summer in order to keep the chironomid at the optimum depth of 6 feet in 20 feet of water. This was more successful than with just a floating line and leader. The chironomid however was a fairly realistic imitation.
