Peggy, thanks.

I figure I could go with my big flies even longer, just about until I go blind.
 lol

I am not going to commercially tie. Too much competition, stress, and I make
more per hour with my custom flies.

Facebook may be coming, but have too much now to figure out.

Have you heard from Deb Duran? How is she doing?

Thanks Again,
Don

So you have retired as well? You will not regret the decision. I figure we
can keep the fly tying going into our mid to late 70's, there is so much less
stress. Also, a lesson from some of these younger tiers, no or very few shop
orders, they are doing well with direct sales on web, Instragram and FB. I've
done just under $3K from FB this year.

Just some fly news for retirement-time this summer. Got many irons in the
fire, so it’s very hectic. Getting in sync with my sister-in-law (new web
master) is taking a little time, but is coming along well. New tricks + old
dogs don’t mix well.
  Fly-Side News:
  1. My Matlacha Rainbow Streamer (below) was chosen for the expo pin logo-fly
for the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo 2018 scheduled for Jan 13 & 14, 2018.
There was a contest for ‘the best pin fly design’, so I declined since I don’t
enter competitions. They came back to me since they really liked the streamers
I donated to their conservation auction at the last show and banquet. So I just
sent the MR photo below and told them if they want to use it they could.
They just got back and said it would be the logo fly on the official Show Pin
next year. They usually pick full dress salmon flies.

  2. Website: Completely re-doing FantasyFlies.com with a new web-page program
and provider. Will be much easier to post new photos, articles, videos, etc.
No one but Darren can upgrade the html-based site as it is now, so I have to
switch to non-genius format. Thanks Darren (Pacres) for your help years ago.
  3. Rope-dubbing videos are progressing, and have the 1st one for You-tube
very close (trailer video- lol). Had to set me up a You Tube Channel with all
the bells and whistles, so that took some time. Posted some short videos of
photos of me at the Idaho Falls show this spring, and one of some streamers-
just to test our posting settings. Looking good. Needed the website addressed
1st for this also, with a modified Rope Dub page. Lots of work.
  4. #32 video. Have it in editing with SiL for video trials for macro
clarity, and I think we’ve got it down now. Will do one more tie, and then some
clips of setting up the materials, then final edit and post. I want to have
the website and channel done before I post in case I get any views or traffic.
Hope fully it will be as good quality-wise as the Rope Dub #1 DVD video was.
Have had to learn my Sony Handi-cam and the editing software with SiL.
  5. 14/0 Giant Flies- Making a new group of giant flies and will be posting
individual photos of each as they are finished. That way a buyer gets exactly
what he or she ordered. This will be new- Flies for sale page. Will be how I
feed myself after retirement this summer.
  6. Big Classic Streamers in clear presentation boxes- Will order the plastic
display boxes soon to set my large show-streamers in to sell as individuals.
Also getting my wood shop set up for shadow-box framing groups. Should be fun.
All will be on the new website.
So LOTS going on, plus getting done a few other things I’ve been putting off.
