TroutYeah! guide service has 2 great guides in Josh and Joe. Don't worry about
a thing as they are very knowledgeable and will take care of you. Their prices
are very affordable compared to other services I've seen. Not sure if you'll
even need your own rod as they typically provide everything. I'd check with
Josh to see what you need to bring.

As far as how much to tip them: I say tip them good, but I know both of them
personally, so I'm a little biased... LOL I would tip just like you would for a
good meal. 15% as a baseline, but for good service go above that.

Subject: [VFB] First guided trip, any help / suggestions welcome

So my wife totally floored me and said that I could take a 4-day weekend in
June, after the kids' and her schools let out (she's a teaching librarian in
the local high school) to fly fish some semi-local waters with a guide. I've
selected Spring Creek and/or Flyfisher's Paradise, near State College,
Pennsylvania, USA, which is about a 3 hour jaunt from where I reside. I'm in
contact with Josh Miller, of Team USA Fly Fishing, to guide me and hopefully
instill some knowledge on euro nymphing, which I'm a baby at (or whatever you'd
call someone who doesn't even make the cut to be called a novice... at least
when it comes to euro nymphing... at least... I've fished dries almost
exclusively for my fishing career, and done remarkably well with them, but
considering the relative percentage of food that is under the surface, I'm no
dummy and am eager to learn the ways of the nymph. I'm no Nate Brumley...)

So this is my first ever trip using a guide. I'll be practicing my casting on
the back lawn, using the rod and reel I intend to take with me on the trip,
just with an old fly line. (Fishing for grass carp, I suppose? ;) ) but
besides that, what should I do to prepare, or what can I expect during the trip?

Also, he has yet to get any sort of pricing to me. Not sure what to do
regarding tip, either - any suggestions? I realize it is based on the quality
of the trip, and if he loads me up with flies or something like that, I'll
obviously pay extra, but I wanted a general ballpark figure. Just a closest
hundred or 200 bucks (USD) or so. Just so I have an idea of what I should be
aiming at for a tip.

So I have no idea what to expect from a guided trip, and am looking for any
"guide"-ance you can provide.

Thanks, everyone!
-Pete
