There were actually no witnesses to the copperhead incident, although I 
believe it to be true.  I been sighted in a few times in the woods while 
fishing or hiking or biking; once by an archer in a tree stand.
I'm sure it has happened other times that I was unaware of.  I had one
shot hit near me- I never saw that guy.  In PA some of the best waters are 
on or near state game lands.  In fact, I fish in a stream near Ft. 
Indiantown Gap, and often hear the heavy guns at target practice.

Good point , Bob. I, too, have a Carry Permit. I'm nearly always armed when 
in snake country. (Never had the misfortune of being chased by a copperhead, 
though.) The unlucky souls who have crowded me enough to make me lose my 
temper have rarely even responded. They just move away. I firmly believe in 
"first come...", unless you actually hold title to the water in question. 
This bullheaded persistence I have in believing that right is right and 
rude/moronic behavior deserves verbal abuse will probably be my eventual 
downfall.
