Hello All-
I recently acquired a used book titled, "Fly Tying
Problems and Their Answers" by John Veniard and Donald
Downs. In the first chapter, on winging problems, it
mentions a tool called "winging pliers" and also shows
a line drawing of a pair. They resemble cross-lock
tweezers more than anything else, with a squared,
blunt end with a slot running lengthwise down the
business end. According to the text, after cutting a
pair of matching slips for wings, they are placed in
the pliers, held over the hook and the tying thread
passed through the slot and the wings bound straight
down to the hook.
To be honest, I don't really need them, since I can do
the "pinch & loop" good enough for my rather
unexacting standards. I just love gadgets. Has anyone
on the list seen a tool like this? None of the
catalogs I've ever seen have had anything like it.
Just for info the book was published in the UK in '70
and in the US in '72. Any info is certainly
appreciated.
