Following is the recipe and tying instructions for the Tom Thumb.
Hook: Mustad 94840, size 8-14
Thread: 6/0, Black
Tail: Stacked Deer Hair
Body/Wing: Stacked Deer Hair
Start the thread behind the hook-eye and lay a foundation to the bend of
the hook.
Tie in the tail using a small amount of hair.
Advance the thread to a point just behind the hook-eye.
Tie in a clump of hair about 3 times the length of the hook behind the
hook-eye. The hair should be tied in by the butts and the tips should
protrude over and past the bend of the hook.
Wrap the thread back to the bend of the hook, securing the hair to the hook
shank.
Advance the thread to a point directly behind the hook-eye.
Bring the hair over the back of the fly forming the back of the fly. Tie
down the hair behind the hook-eye leaving some of the hair forming a wing
over the hook-eye. Tie off the hair using a whip finish.
The fly is complete.
Hope this works for you.
Let me know if you need any further info.
