| Smallmouth fisherman here on the Susquehanna have been using several flies like these for many years. My Dad had quite a few in his boxes when I began fly fishing in the late 60's. Depending upon who tied them or where you purchased them I've heard them called Frogs, Bullets, Pollies (for pollywogs maybe?) and others I can't recall. Most of them were tied so that you finished the fly at the back, giving the front a rounded look.
Some of them had hackle palmered over the body before the back/shell was pulled over. And one that worked very well had a spun deer hair body and deer hair back/shell. Greg Delker S. Williamsport, PA |
