Hi Bill,

If you used dyed partridge, you cannot go wrong. The feathers are pretty
short and the fibers aren't too long. You only need two to three turns. If
you wrap it near the eye like a dry fly hackle - provided you have not built
up a thread base, you can then use the thread to push the hackle backward.
It takes some practice but it is pretty easy and you get a nice fishable
fly.

For the Green Thing - I use Chartreuse dyed Partridge - and then Caddis
Green Quick Descent for the body. Depending how creative I am, I will use a
rust / brown thorax - but not too much as I do not like the hackle fibers
standing up any more than 60 degrees of the horizontal. I like the low
profile appeal of soft hackles....

Everyone has their own preference - that is the beauty of soft hackles...and
they work when you least expect them too.

I say go for it! I saw your pictures, and even though my soft hackles are
different, that is the nice thing of a swap - I get to fish with other
people's preferences...

Tight Thread!!

Thanks.

Chris

OK, OK... I was gonna pass on the soft hackle swap because still don't know
how to tie a soft hackle right and I don't want to send out crummy flies
with all of the great tiers on this list. However after that "Royal Email" I
can't resist so lousy or not you guy's are getting 12 of em'. Count me in
Shay! I'm not sure what yet...
