Larry,
After you tie on to the shank, don't trim the tag end
of the thread (and leave it long...about 8-10 inches
or so). Apply dubbing to the thread closest to the
bobbin in the usual "Nor-Vise" fashion then grab the
tag end and hold it next to the dubbing noodle. Spin
everything together (just like you would if you were
twisting peacock herl) and you end up with a nice rope
that gives a little better segmented effect once wound
on the shank. This also works well when replacing the
tag end of the thread with mylar or shiny wire for a
little flash in the dubbed "rope".
