small hackles..I'd suggest getting the Whiting 100's package..you can buy
any color in any size, pre-sized to the size hook you need and will get
enough hackle to hackle 100 flies (and they really do do that many). Check
with your flyshop and see if these won't suit your needs to begin with. As
time goes on, you can watch for good Whiting or Metz saddles with stiff
hackle in the sizes you most commony tie and get the hackle a full saddle at
a time ( a bit more economical once you know for sure that you really like
this tying). When you are ready for soft hackles, look for hen saddles,
pheasant, grouse, partridge, etc. Good luck. Joyce
