I once had a #18 end up in the tip my little finger.  By pushing the
hook in farther and turning it, I barely managed to get enough
of the point exposed so I could mash the barb down and
get the hook out.
I respect the fish as much as anyone else. But part of the
reason I de-barb my hooks is to make my own "release"
easier when I'm "caught".
