I have a video by Larry Dahlberg wherein he illustrates a fly he ties for Northern Pike. It is a surface pattern that uses a spun deer head and a long body (4 to 6 inches) made from a combination of kinky Big Fly Fiber and crystal flash. The idea is to have a big profile fly with as little weight as possible. The deer head is shaped with a flat bottom and a collar sloping upward similar to his Dahlberg Diver.

He pulled in a bunch of monster pike with that fly. I think he was fishing the early spring spawn with all of the fish taken on the surface in the shallows. Those big fish looked like alligators when they closed in of his fly. Pretty exciting stuff.

I am looking for some patterns for walleye and pike to tie up before my trip
to Canada this June and have know idea what would be successful. I know
that the last 2 years I've been there in different stages of the mayfly
hatch and tons of blackl flys. Thanks

Fish On!!
