Hi Paul,
I fish the Potomac in D.C. for shad and use small clousers - sizes 8 and 10. Pink over white is a pretty good combo, so is chartreuse over white and chartreuse over yellow.
Last year I had an insanely good day with a red conehead/white bucktail fly, but I suspect the great day had more to do with timing than with the fly.

There are only a couple of months before shad will be running up the Susquehanna. Does anyone have go-to flies that will catch fish in the Deer Creek, MD crush?
