It is very easy to get off on the wrong foot when you're dealing with such opposite sides of the spectrum as Peta vs sportsman. I refrained from making any comments during ALL the post yesterday. I think that if you honestly spend any time reading the comment made by most list members(when not being baited but on normal post)you will find that sportsman, flyfisherman more than some, are very concerned about wildlife and it's humane treatment. I am sure that many of the list members dedicate their time in maintaining and improving the natural habitat that is quickly being distroyed by development. In fact, many species of animals would be long gone if it wasn't for efforts of sportsman...like Teddy Roosevelt. Sportsman, for the most part, aren't kill happy people. They realize that "harvesting" has it effect when too many animals are taken and also realize that not harvesting has even a bigger effect...sickness, starvation ect... We have greatly reduced the number of nature predators. That's what happens when we build malls, highways and housing. I shop at the mall, drive a car and live in a house...so I am guilty...but I am sure you are too.
Back to your original question; I try to land a fish without overly stressing it and in most cases I do practice catch and release. However, I do occasionally take a fish for the table. I do eat meat and don't apologies for it. I'm not a hypocrite that thinks the meat that I do eat magically shows up in the supermarket wrapped in plastic. I know it comes from some sort of an animal and if I am going to eat it, I am willing to kill it. Everytime I smile, I see canine teeth. They were developed to eat meat. Fishing is the only sport that you can practice "catch and release"...no such thing as shoot and release. No reason for an apology...you have your right to your opinion.
