if you want a really good book on terrestrials...check out Bill Skilton at U.S.A. Flies. the website isnt working but you can email him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] He ties with ALOT of foam, and the book isnt fancy. It's very well put together and tells you how to tie each and every one of his patterns. No, not material lists for every one, DIRECTIONS. Has things from dragonflies to beatles and ants, all sorts of things. I met him 2 weekends ago, very nice guy. I've read the book cover to cover and am tying some of his flies already. All of his patterns are really simple. And thats my 2 cents.

Although you asked for responses off-line, thought I would answer on-line and also pose a question to the group. I find Stevens' book, Trout and Terrestrials, worth the price, even though it is British and some flies/insects aren't found or aren't common in the States (or Canada - you're from frozen Edmonton, right?)

For the list (and in keeping with Byard's attempt to keep this a fly-tying list), wondering what other book resources exist for Terrestrial patterns besides these three: Tying and Fishing the Terrestrials by Wilson (I consider it dated but still an interesting curiosity), Tying and Fishing Terrestrials by Almy (a basic "classic"), and Terrestrials by Steeves & Koch (best I've found).

Are there other Terrestrial-based pattern books out there? And I suspicion there are "pet" patterns among the VFB members - maybe a book in progress?

Does anyone own the book Trout and Terrestrials by Lou Stevens? If so I would like to know if it is worth purchasing, the local shop doesn't have so my only option is getting it online. Any info would be helpful, please contact me off list.

Thanks,
Bart
