Thanks so much for the clarification, Denis. I have friends in the UK, and they have friends in Ireland. You may have saved me from a glaring social error!! I really didn't know that about the Republic of Ireland.

Now, if you ever want me to explain the differences between Coloradans and Texans; or Oregonians and Californians, just ask! (really ducking and running).

There's even an independence movement called the State of Jefferson where southern Oregon and northern California want to form their own new state. See: <http://jeffersonstate.com/> (for some odd reason this site does not work in all browsers)

But definitely the history of the Republic of Ireland is a serious matter (particularly in regards to England), and again thanks for the insight.
