Dave,

Here are the directions from the book "Spey Flies & Dee Flies" This is
a
great book by the way.

1 begin by attaching one end of the gut or dacron to the far side of the
shank, just behind the end of the front taper. Use half a dozen tight
thread
wraps
2. Begin bindng this first strand to the shank whit neat, compact thread
wraps, going back about a third or half the way down the shank
3. reverse direction s and spiral the tread forward, and begin binding
downt
the second strand on your side of the shank.
4. continue rearward with the tread making tight adjacent warps of
thread
5. well back on the hook shank, ray the ends and stager cut them to
create a
smooth taper
6.bind downthe grayed ends again using neat tight thread wraps
7. coat the wrapping whit an adhesive and allow to dry. test the loop
for
Strength before dressing the fly.
