STEVE-

I've caught Carp on Nymphs...mostly those recommended in the book "Carp on the Fly".....Clouser's swimming nymph,rust- Rubber legged Hares Ear in Natural & rust color combos...  Seems Rust is a very effective color for Carp, who knows why???? I think the Swimming Nymph is a great pattern for searching & to imitate those drakes you mentioned earlier on. lotsa motion & the bulk to call their attention, would be my humble guesses.... While i personally haven't hit a carp on a Wooly Bugger, I wouldn't hold back fishing them....they catch damn near everything with fins, including lotsa So Cal Surf zone fish....
