No tail, The fly is a no brainer when it comes to tying.
I cut a strip of the soft porous yellow foam about 1/16" wide, tie it in at the
bend on top of the strand of peacock. Wrap a couple of turns, tie off and pull
the peacock over the back and tie off. That is it. I use either black or yellow
10/0 thread. If I want an outstanding head I use the black thread. Sometimes it
is the only fly that will work.
I have had some strange things happen though.
Several times I have about exhausted using small flies. The trout were taking sz
44 1/2's. Could not get a hit. Changed over to a sz 14 olive dubbed body bugger
and picked up a number of trout casting to rises.
These were always larger trout. This has happened a number of times over the
past few years.
Go figure.
