That is a drawback. FYI there IS such a thing as an auto-rewinding bobbin taking ordinary spools. It is a recent 'invention', in that the patent explicitly mentions the NorBlock bobbin, and its alleged drawback of a proprietary spool that needs to be filled, as well as one or two older similar inventions. I have no idea whether it is actually in production, but if you check a patent web site (such as www.depatisnet.de), you should be able to find it...
