I can see why you're looking for it, and why you can't find it, too. The bomber minnows are something
newer.
The original bomber fly that I remember from the
old pattern
books was a cigar-shaped trimmed deerhair dry
fly with a hackle
palmered all the way through and buried into the
deerhair.
I remember a red hackle tail and a trimmed
butt-section left in the
vertical position up front, about an eighth of an
inch long. I think
the colors were natural, yellow, and
olive.
The Ausable Bomber you're looking for is probably
the latter, just
guessing from the articles. They were tied as
skaters.
Too bad there are no photos except of the bomber streamer pattern.
