Just in case any of you care to read some firsthand accounting of the hurricane, I am forwarding this clipping from my cousin. I am sending this to help those with friends and family in the path. -Murf
Hi all---Just updating you. Mom and Dad are fine. The eye of Jeanne came on at Stuart about midnight last night(Sat). I spoke with them about 11:30 pm and they were having constant winds 99-129 mph and had an extra 7 people in their house. They are helping out some neighbors and people from the club who didn't want to ride out the storm without power. They have power from the generator on the boat--the power went out yesterday afternoon. I spoke with them at 7:30 this am and they were still getting wind and rain--but nothing like last night. They said this storm was much fiercer than Frances. The neighbors across the canal lost their screen enclosure--part of it on top of the house. Mom and Dad said they lost some screen panels due to the neighbor's pine tree limbs--they also have some limbs driven into the house between the house and the soffit--the limbs are sticking out, perpendicular to the house. The boat did well--had some rub marks on the teak where the dock rubbed--but it can be fixed. They were pleased the new paint job wasn't ruined. The water came up higher than in Frances, over the dock--but it came at low tide--which was good news. They went out during the eye and adjusted the boat. In all they are weary, but glad it's over.
Nan, in Lakeland, is experiencing 100mph winds this am and lost power at 4 am--she is boarded up and has a generator. They are on the north side of the storm with the worst of the wind, but all are fine. Jim's Mom is staying with them because she lives in a mobile home.
Kenny (works for FL Power) went to work at 5 am in the wind and the rain. We will only have 50-75 mph winds in Ocala ----Hopefully all the weak trees are gone--they fell during Frances. We have huge oaks in Ocala--very pretty, but very brittle and many right next to the power lines. During Frances some were without power for a week due to the trees.
Hope all are well. Love, Steph
