Tom, where do you live in VT. My son lives in Rutland and I stayed with him for a week this past July and Fished the Battenkill, Otter Creek, Metawee, Mad Tom Brook and Roaring Brook. I hate to admit it, but the fishing was terrible. Must have been the time of year. I saw an elderly couple keeping brook trout the size of minnows on Mad Tom. I guess with a limit of 12 fish, it can clean a stream out pretty quickly. I was really disappointed in the Battenkill, never caught a fish and had a ton of canoeists to contend with.
I thought that I might try further north next year, maybe up around Island Pond and fish the Clyde River. My son just got married in October and I guess I will be getting up there more frequently. Hang in there with the fly tying. It is easier than it looks. I have been tying for 30 years. I teach fly tying at my fly fishing club (Free State Fly Fishers) here in Maryland and have had many successes. George
