Glad you liked it Mark. I was tying those for my tube class in January and
I ended up giving all of them away at the show. I came home with some
pretty neat flies in exchange though. :) Dave Schmezer gave me a cicada
that I LOVE!!! He is a riot! Steve came home with a pocket full of Byards
special caddis flies so he didn't give me such a hard time this trip even
though my little darlings were in rare form. :)
I probably won't submit that to a magazine but I plan on sending some more
flies to Hans. I don't know the origin of the pattern but it is one that I
got from Ed Belasky my saltwater mentor so there is a good chance it is his
original pattern. He is one of them most gifted tyers I know and he has
loaned me his tarpon and tube flies so that I can reproduce the patterns. I
learn so much doing this. He doesn't use conventional materials in many of
his flies so it makes me think outside the box. Eventually I can apply all
of this knowledge to my own creations. He is my biggest salt water
inspiration and a rare individual to share so much. He gave his permission
to send the flies I tied for Hans site also. There are so many talented
tiers I meet that stay away from circuit tying and then their patterns are
lost to time.
Enjoy,
Deb

Speakin' of a Tuna fly. BTW, Deb presented me with a BEAutiful Squid fly (tube fly) at the I.F.T.S. show on Sat. It's a work of art. Y'all gotta see it. (now don't go asksing for a pic, my wife has the digital camera) Deb, you gonna get that in the Tyin' mag. too? And thank you again. mark.....
Back at you Deb. ;) ...yes your absolutely right about their being scads of
very talented tyers out here who no one has ever heard of. I meet 'em all
the time. The circut tyers fall into a couple catagories, ...(don't get me
wrong)... either they are in the "business" in some way or another, or
they're simply natural entertainers and talented. Most of the talented tyers
i've met who don't tye at shows, either have little or no ego about it, or
are simply shy in one way or another. Which is not nessessarily to say
humble, (which most are) ......maybe i should of said to emphasize humble.
Most all "Giants" in any field, especially the arts, have developed a
certain degree of humility. Least that's been my observation, and i lived
with them in the Jazz world for almost 30 years. Anyway, i think most of the
really talented tyers outside the circut, are just somewhat not that
outgoing, and don't have a bent for entertaining........which is a lot of
what doing shows is all about. You have to dig it. Then it's a BALL. So
here's the unsung heros. mark.......
