Pete, our TU chapter, The Guadalupe River Chapter, makes a sizeable donation for TU's Western Water Project to help improve streams in the west.
If you wanted to do something with your TU chapter or individually, write TU president, Charles Gauvin and he'll be glad to give you some suggestions. You can post him at: Charles Gauvin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Just a question for the group, now that mark brings it up: I'm in the local chapter of TU and work with the local DEP to improve streams and rivers damaged from strip-mining... but what should one do for places "far off"? An example is I live near Philadelphia (generally) but wish to help other areas also - especially as the Philadelphia area is not as keen on "environment" over "industry". What can be done by someone in my geographic locale to help far- off places (ie North Carolina's mountains, just as an example)? Also, what can be done when you're fighting a loosing battle with the local majority?
Just thinking, is all. Tight wraps, Pete

Pete, Jimmy is right. C.G. is actually a very personable guy. I met him when
i went to the TU National Convention in Syracuse, N.Y. in 2000, TUY2K. I
went to to it that year because i figured it might never be as close as that
is to me again, and i had never been. It was a lotta fun. I took a class on
the Rosgen method of stream restoration. Did a float of 9 mile creek with
members of the local Iriquoix chapter who voluteerred to row us down that
river. Caught fish, paid for my lifetime membershsip there that time, and
ended up with a beautiful framed atlantic salmon fly especially designed and
tyed for that event by Greg Heffner, now president of the Conhocton Valley
chapter in New York and fellow CFTG member. Greg is a pal, and i knew i
might never make another National TU Convention, so nobody was goin' home
with that fly but me, LOL. When you get to the site (TU.org) just look up
top and click on Conservation. You can also search any chapter in the
country, simply by putting in the zip code of a town in that area. mark
