One of the most effective woolly buggers I've ever used was one from Doug in
the fly swap. His bugger was made with the bits of fluff from the hackle
that you usually find too webby and throw away, first tied on for a tail in
several bunches..not a single amount as one does with normal marabou. Then
he would tie the marabou on and wind it around the bugger so that it was
more of a marabou bugger. you can get the same effect by using the bits of
marabou fluff and putting them in a split thread or double thread and
winding it on. They were really soft, really full and much more effective
than the standard woolly bugger on the stream. I've also had good luck with
running a bit of flash along the sides of the underbody of the bugger before
wrapping this fluff hackle..seems to show through on the stream much like a
lateral line. Enjoy your fishing. We've an inch of snow and much cold
here..but the fishing license is current for the river..as soon as the
avalanche danger has been cleared. Joyce
