Someone to root for...
A great story out of our home of Bend, Oregon is RACHEL, SCIDORIS, a 19-year who triumphed in several years of battles against administrative caution, skepticism, and red tape to become the first legally blind musher to qualify for the 1100-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog race.
The 2005 race starts its 10-15 day run a day from now on Saturday morning.
Rachel is an incredible story. Jerry Scidoris, her father owns a long-time sled dog tour winter operation, and they have a spread east of town to house and raise more sled dogs than you have ever seen in one place, outside of a race itself.
Pleasure to say I have met Jerry several times, and talked with a younger Rachel at a party some time back when she was just starting racing. The are a very sweet family. So... cross your fingers. and add a prayer. Go Rachel, Go!
