Chuck,
 The 5-6wt will work for most of your fishing, I only use my 8wt when
fishing steelhead or salmon. I have a 5-6wt that I use on some of the larger
rivers but have been known to use the 3wt there as well. The key is to think
about what fish you're targeting, how big the fish are, river or stillwater.
