Ken ,When using a coffee grinder or a food mixer ,for most flies when cutting up yarn ,fur etc, start out by cutting the material 1 1/2 gap of the hook in length to get a even mix..Then after learning more on blending adjust length as needed. Some soft furs can be longer but this is part of learning but 1 1/2 gap is a good guide.

So Pete,

What you're saying is you had an issue with a coffee grinder? ;-)

The question is not CAN it be used, but HOW it can be used. ;)
In my opinion, cotton- balls make wonderful dubbing when teased apart
by two pet "slicker brushes" or an old coffee grinder (preferably one
your significant other doesn't value...) Oh, and they take up dyes
fairly well, besides! If you prefer a more "spikey" nymph dubbing,
you can add a drop or two (to 5 or 6 cotton-balls) of diluted
head-cement or VERY dilute (with remover) nail- polish, then tease
apart in a coffee- grinder before the cement dries. Again, only do
this in a VERY old coffee grinder that your significant other doesn't
value... is it obvious that I'm in the dog house until I buy another
coffee grinder? ;)
Tight wraps,
Pete
