David -

You can find it in the detergent aisle of the grocery store, under the brand
name 20 MULE TEAM BORAX. It is a natural product.

Don't cut the hair off. It'll just become a big unmanageable glob
that is useless.

Follow Ashley's advice, even though he went back under his rock. If
the boraz gets moist, scrape it off and put on a fresh batch.

After the hide's dried out, cut it into smaller pieces - fold it with
the hair side out. Run a SHARP knife or box cutter along the fold
from underneath. You'll have nice pieces without having hair all over
the place.
