Jim: I bought My 13 yr old (11 when I bought it).. a 7ft, Shakespeare Model MFLY702 Light action, 4wt rod and only paid $14.95 for it, and he picked it up right away... At 11 (and now) Freddy (My Son) is real small for his age, so I think it might just work, Chuck
