I placed a phone order with Byard earlier today, for some steelhead hooks and Burnt Orange tying thread ( Hook'em Horns). During our conversation I realized that my annual VFB dues are due the first of February. I told Byard to go anead and handle it along with my order via my credit card. Then Byard told me that the VFB, a list of over 400 members had only 30 whose dues are up to date. I was shocked! When I sit down and think of what Byard does for us VFB members, it galls my butt that some 370 VFB email list subscribers are not paying dues. Dues never have been mandatory, but you'd think that with all that Byard does for the VFB, most of us would think enough of him and what he does for us to pay yearly dues. They're not that much! Let me enumerate. 1. Byard maintains the VFB list for us. This means a lot to me. Without the VFB email list, I'd be an unhappy camper. 2. He keeps the Virtual Fly Box website up to date and has all kinds of available help for fly tyers. The hours he spends maintaining the VFB sites are astronomical. 3. Byard also spends a good chunk of his money maintaining the two VFB sites. 4. Byard also owns. Lines End Online Fly Shop which has a great selection of fly tying materials, tools, etc. etc. 5.The VFB website also has over 1,000 fly patterns. 6. He also gives every dues paying VFB'er a 5 % discount on all orders from Lines End. Memberships start at $15 for a Contributing member, $35 for a Supporting Member and receive the neat VFB cap or $35 Supporting Member and get a $15 gift certificate - your choice. What a deal. The VFB also has a bulletin board and a chat room where we can go and BS to our heart's content. Like I said, What a Deal ! Besides paying yearly dues, another way to show our appreciation to Byard for his efforts is to purchase our fly tying supplies from Lines End. If you haven't done so, click on the Virtual Fly Box website URL below and take a look. You'll be glad you did.
