Hi Gang!

Been a whirlwind last couple of weeks. Got in late last night from NM. I'd unsubscribed from my 3 fly fishing lists for the last two weeks so, the only ones of you I heard from were those who didn't realisize I was OFF LIST.. Had my "notebook" with me to check email. Pretty well finished the house remodeling before our trip to NM. Folks, Jody and I needed a vacation after all that!

If you can imagine twenty of us spending the week in one BIG condo, 8 grandkids from 1 1/2 yrs to 17 years, our three sons and wives, two daughters and husbands, plus all our gear, fishing and otherwise, with everybody jabbering at a hundred miles an hour most of the time for a solid week, then you can get a good feel for how tired Grandma and Me are - Whew! BUT, Jody and I loved every minute of it, especially me, for near the end of our stay they all gave Papaw a super, super birthday party and some great birthday gifts. Don't worry, I'll get to the fishing later in this "epistle". :-P

My birthday gifts were as follows: A $200 gift card from Home Depot from youngest daughter Melissa, a "self wearing" camo turkey hunting seat with bottom cushion, fold out back and cushion for back of neck from my youngest son. Joe and I will be turkey hunting come April 1. Middle son Chris gave me a neat white Columbia fishing shirt with a Burnt Orange Longhorn embroidered on the left pocket, a black golf shirt with Burnt Orange Longhorn on it, plus he upgraded the memory on my computer. My oldest son David gave me a beautiful green Tibor Tail Water CL fly reel. Best looking reel I own and it casts great on my 7 1/2' Orvis bamboo. The Tibor reel has my name engraved on it, plus "Happy 70th Year of Fishing."

Jody is having a fly tying desk built especially for my new fly tying room that was part of the remodeling. It's identical to the old watchmaker desk that I've been using, but has more drawers, etc. Sorry guys, but one of the remodelers bought my old watchmaker desk.

The fishing was great. We caught nothing over 16", but the action ws plentiful, as we fished the Red, Cimarron and Rio Costillo. Most of the rainbows and cutts averaged around 11", while the browns averaged around 14". The Cimarron was mainly browns which we caught near Ute Park and also along Hwy 64 in Cimarron Canyon. As for the gals and grandkids, they had a ball visiting the Taos Pueblo and all the shops in Red River, Taos, and Eagle Nest and doing what gals do when their husbands go fishing. My two daughters did fish a little too.

I could go on and on, but just wanted to share a little of what was the best week I ever had with my family and my best birthday party ever!

Cheers !

JIMMY D

P.S. I'll resume the Quotes and Jokes tomorrow morning. Thanks to Rick for holding down the quote fork for me.
