I recommend that you try Xawtv <http://www.strusel007.de/linux/xawtv/>. 
It nearly always works with this camera. If you still get this problem, 
try upgrading your kernel to 2.4.6 or later. There are some USB data 
corruption issues in earlier kernels.

You might also want to upgrade the ov511 driver (the Webcam III driver).

W3Cam <http://www.hdk-berlin.de/~rasca/w3cam/> does this. It also 
includes vidcat, which is another useful tool for testing. Note that you 
must specify the color palette manually with the "-p r" option.

Camserv <http://cserv.sourceforge.net/> is good to try if you want video 
on your webpage, instead of just a still image updated every minute or 
so (like W3Cam).
