You can notice that PIN 7 of LM1881 can detect odd/even
fields with a handy transistor logic switch.

Such resource is used to selective capture even/odd frames.

This ensures proper reading/writing sequence of these frames
and also allow a wide range of counters and triggers to operate.

When used with multiple input lines this chip can properly
gate (using a simple logic or even microcode) the black
level of the input video (using a LPF) providing black 
level restoration at video output when the output selected
line(s) is not being gated through.
