  If you want it to look as good as a television (framerate wise), you
can try out my (unfinished) deinterlacer:

  I have it working locally with a (patched) X server + XF86VidMode so I
can add a new modeline at sufficiently high refresh rate to avoid judder
(I was actually playing with building modelines to exactly match the
framerate, but then we need a better vsync api to handle any error).

  Let me know if you have problems though.  I watch TV with it at
800x600x135hz refresh and it looks reasonable, but with some temporal
aliasing (the flicker isn't as even as on a TV).
