If you want it to look as good as a television (framerate wise), you can try out my (unfinished) deinterlacer: http://www.dumbterm.net/graphics/tvtime/ I have it working locally with a (patched) X server + XF86VidMode so I can add a new modeline at sufficiently high refresh rate to avoid judder (I was actually playing with building modelines to exactly match the framerate, but then we need a better vsync api to handle any error). Let me know if you have problems though.
