My offhand guess would be bandwidth allocation. Since USB 1.1 is
realistically too slow for anything more demanding than a laser printer,
most "high bandwidth" usb peripherals attempt to allocate all available
usb bandwidth, or are otherwise Just Plain Rude. So, if they're on the
same bus, that would be my guess. iirc, there is an experimental option in
the kernel usb drivers for 'enforce bandwidth allocation' - might help.
