[V4L] need video drivers for linux

Hi      I want to capture an image with webcam in linux. Since im a starter in linux platform i dont know exactly about the drivers. Can u please let me know abt the video webcam drivers which can be supported for most webcams. Pls let me know where i can have a free download of drivers and where can i get the source code and pdf for it.   thanx in advance anand
