I am not too happy to say, yes it was a connector contact problem alright, or rather the lack of one! The PC/104 board I was given to use is just that a PC/104 which does not contain the required PC/104+ bus. Excellent diagnosis Charlie!
So next step is to find me a nice (cheap) linux friendly PC/104+ board! I was using a Jumptec board which has its own distribution (White Dwarf Linux) which made it nice n easy to get going.
