Hauppauge WinTV-HD

I'm gonna keep looking at archives, etc. but thought I'd post a 'ok, I'm stupid, what am I doing wrong' plea for help.....

I've got a Hauppauge WinTV-HD card and am running 'stock' RH 8.0. I know the card works under win98SE, but none of the recording sw can recognize the HD channels. I can't get i2c to load right, and bttv also complains aobut 'init_module: No such device' Has anyone gotten this to work?
