FWIW, I'm running RHL 7.3 with all updates.
I brought a used WinTV card with a 878 chipset.
I put it in the computer and booted it. Kudzu detected
the new card and made the necessary entries in /etc/modules.conf,
I installed the xawtv rpm from the Red Hat CDs and setup the channels.
This took me all of 5 minutes.

Red Hat has issued new kernels since the release of Valhalla.
At least, one of these fixes issues with bttv. Upgrade.
