With latest 2.4.20 kernelpatch from 20030321 and saa7134-0.2.7 (snapshot bytesex.org) it is no longer necessary to run v4l-conf first.
Tvtime still hangs when changing deinterlace modes with the t key. (Also don't and didn't see audio and swap fields problems on my md9717. Tested all -D options.)
