I had the same problem with a precompiled XFree4.0 from SuSE, however I
used a 2.4pre kernel, a Voodoo3 and xawtv. Grabdisplay mode worked
however (I think there's no grabdisplay mode in kwintv?). It was a bit
strange, there were no errors, just no picture. The problem went away
when I compiled XFree4.0.1 myself.
Perhaps you have a problem with the new Xvideo extensions, so you could
try not to load some modules (especially the v4l module, if I put this
into the XF86Config file, I don't have a picture, because xawtv then
tries to use the Xv extension, which is not supported for the voodoo3
yet).
If it still doesn't work, try xawtv - it can output a lot of debugging
info.
