I have looked on the xawtv home page and in the Linux Documentation/vide4linux
pages, and no HOWTO seems to exist so I have to ask on this list. Please forgive
me if I in fact overlooked it, but then also tell me where it was :-)

As I am living in Canada I expect any TV card I buy will support NTSC. However,
as I have family in Denmark it would be great if I could find one that also
supports PAL, and it is changeable by configuration. How this is suported is
what isn't clear to me, so I would like to ask the following, where the first
question is for safety:

1.Is there any card or type of card out there that will definitely *not* work
with Linux? (for example like winmodems when dealing with modems)

There is a long list of supported cards in :

       linux/Documentation/video4linux/bttv/CARDLIST

but for now I'll not assume that I will be able to find exactly one of those.

2.Is there any recommended card that is able to do TV with selectable NTSC or
PAL and FM/AM radio? Is it normal that NTSC and PAL can be selected?

3.Are there any other differences with TV/Radio cards that I should look out
for, eg. load on CPU, picture/reception quality, remote control (it looks
like remote control is possible, but I wonder how that works if the card sits
somewhere else?). I suspect that price depends on features and quality, but
would all features be supported in Linux? My interest is only the TV/Radio
reception at a decent quality, and the mentioned NTSC/PAL selectability, and
possibly in the PAL version also option for Tele Text.

Thank you very much for your time,

Peter
