        Ugh. Don't use the jumbo patch, I don't know why gerd keeps it
online anymore. 

        Also, I don't know if Mandrake's sources are clean. And you have
the order wrong anyway. 

        Get the i2c source from the lm_sensors web site. use the mkpatch
program they supply to make an i2c patch for your kernel. Follow their
instructions. 

        in make xconfig, make sure all of the i2c modules are compiled as
modules. all of them. then "make dep ; make clean" and then "make modules
bzImage" 

        *After* you have a working kernel with i2c modules up and running,
compile bttv standalone (ie, don't bother patching the kernel with bttv) 

        And like I said, I don't know what mandrakesoft puts in their
kernel rpms. If you run into trouble with their kernel source, try getting
clean kernel source from a kernel.org mirror. 

        if you're not familiar with kernel configuration, read the kernel
howto.
