True, uncompressed video gets big quickly:

720*480 = 345600 pixels/frame
345600 * 30 frames/s = about 10 megapixels/second
10 Mpix/s * 60 s = 600 Mpix/minute
600 Mpix/min * 60 min = 36000 Mpix/hour

If you're working in black and white then 1 pixel = 1 byte, which works out to 36 
GB/hour. If you keep 16 bits per pixel, eg. 4:2:2 or RGB565, then that's 72 GB/hour. 
And 24 bit RGB would be 108 GB/hour.

Clearly 100 gigabytes of RAM is out of the question, but 100 gigabytes of disk is not 
wildly expensive anymore. And data rates of 20-30MB/s are not hard to achieve either. 
But most people would recommend compression to bring both data rates and size down to 
a more reasonable level.
