It's horribly out of date now (I'll update it some day... maybe...) but try the HOWTO at http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/BTTV-Mini-HOWTO-0.3.html It will at least give you the basic idea of what's going on. Then read the docs with the current BTTV to see what's changed.
