Recorded Video No-Sound

I have ATI AIW-Radeon & SoundBlaster Live cards in my box.  I have 
installed ALSA .9, XAWETV, V4L, AVVideo.  I can  watch/hear tv using 
avvideo, before getting that to work I was (past tense) able to 
watch/hear tv using motv & xawetv, now I can only hear.

The control screen of avvideo reports a sound card but can't find the 
video board.  If I use ffmepeg I can record video, but it will not 
capture sound.  All of this is confusing.  Any ideas?
