here is a patch for a full support for Video For Linux 2, which seems to work well for me. Feel free to give it a try and send bug reports, or preferably patches :)
The command line parameters are fairly similar to v4l, except the norm setting, which is done using the "normid=<number>" parameter, where <number> is an index of the norm (see mplayer/mencoder output for the list of supported norms).
