There aren't any open source driver for these available, but players
based on the em8500 uses uClinux, eg the Bravo D1 (available in the US),
or Brainwave DVD-V880 (available in Germany), or one of the KISS DVD
players (Dp-450, DP500). The em8500 has an integrated 150MHz ARM RISC
processor.

The firmware for these players are available as iso images, and it is
possible to extact and decompile the kernel module driver for the dvd
functions of the em8500. See the first link for more information;

It appears theoretically possible to write an open source linux driver
for em847X based hardware, eg. the REALmagic X card (em8475), provided
of course that the em847X is similar in function to the em8500.

Any volunteers?
